How to Use WebSnatcher

Applications like WebSnatcher are often referred to as "Download Managers".   The easiest way to understand how to use WebSnatcher is to compare it to a standard web-browser.  With a normal browser, you open a web page and actually see the contents of the page, which can include graphics, text, sounds, video, etc.   WebSnatcher is basically a web-browser, except that you don't see the pages, but rather you see the links or dependencies on the web page.  For example, consider the following web page opened in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0:

This is a common site that Internet users would see (left):  a standard web page opened in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

In this web page, for example, you can see that there are various links to files on this website.  To download these files using Internet Explorer requires your constant attention because you have to right-click on each file, choose "Save As", let the file download, then repeat the process with each file that you're interested in.

If you're interested in downloading files or entire sites such as these, WebSnatcher is the perfect tool.

Consider WebSnatcher now:

With WebSnatcher (right), you still are viewing the web page, but instead of the actual text, graphics, etc., you see the dependencies or links on the web page.  You can select which links (which are files or sometimes called "items") you're interested in and download any number of them with one step.

You can right-click on an item and chose "Download <file>..." to download it instantly.  If the item happens to be a web or ftp document (with a "+" next to it), you'll be presented with the multi-level download dialog box which will allow you to download as many levels as you please, set file filters during the download, reindex links, and much more.   This is the most powerful feature of WebSnatcher.

Or, for the ultimate in selectivity, you can check items using the check boxes that appear to the left of each item's icon, then right-click and select "Download checked items" from the menu.  Note:  You must explicitly check the each item you want to download.  Downloading checked items doesn't recurse and continue downloading

WebSnatcher is also a "multi-threaded" application, which means that the downloading occurs in the background while the user-interface remains responsive. With this feature, you can download hours worth of information and move the WebSnatcher window out of the way, or minimize it so you can continue working on other applications.
