The Russian Song
Intro:
This song was first performed in Kuching at the Flip Flops Carnival. We love to play in Kuching and we felt comfortable about rolling this song out despite being finalized just an hour or two before the show.

The story behind the Russian Song:
We had several folks asking what that mysterious song was that Davide and I played. Because of all the comments and questions, we figured we’d sorta make a game of it and delay the revealing of this new song until a video of the event was ready. Well, the video isn’t ready yet (though we have the footage), so what the heck?
The interesting story is that I hadn’t heard this song until the sound check the afternoon before the Rave Concert at Flip Flops. I’d finally gotten to test the sound of the guitar and was delighted by the wonderful sound. It just sounded warm and crunchy and resonated endlessly along the beach. I really couldn’t stop playing. Then, I thought that DJ Devina started playing a song with a nice groove to it which I just started playing along with: ”OK, key of a minor, syncopated rhythm, no big deal here…” Shortly afterwards, back in the hotel, I commented to Davide:
“Man, that song that Devina played really sounded nice!”
“Which song?”
“The one at the end that I was playing along to.”
“Oh, well, you know what? That was my song!”
Great! Well, Devina had her share of good songs anyway. :-p
So, shortly thereafter we had the idea of performing this song together and we began preparing it about 9:00-9:30PM as the rain was pouring down on DJ Co2an. We probably finished with the basic ideas around 10:30PM. I was excited about it – it sounded awesome! And, I could tell that Davide was too, with a big smile on his face as we played it through our headphones in the hotel room.
About two hours later, we were performing it.
It’s really amazing how this worked out ’cause we had experienced some problems preparing some other music beforehand. We’d even had some software failure: A crash on a save corrupted a file and we had to recreate a bunch of work the day before the show as well. I suppose for that suffering, we were bestowed the gift of this fun and energetic song. I’ll take it, sure!
Well, time to let the cat out of the bag. The song is a remix of a tune called “Revolution” by a Russian group known as the “Quest Pistols”.
If you’d like to learn a little mo’ about the guitar part, then go to the Revolution how-to video.
