Colorado Fourteener Photos Trip Reports

Here are the fourteeners I've done.  I've done just about all of them.  You'll notice that Pikes Peak is missing.  I just can't bring myself to climb one that has the road to the top, although I climbed Mount Evans way early in my career before I knew better.

The Hardest Fourteeners

Here is what I consider the five most difficult fourteeners.  I tried to ignore the conditions that I had.  On some of the easy ones, the conditions made it a lot harder!  Everyone seems to have different opinions.  For example, one of my hiking partners doesn't think South Maroon belongs on this list.  I don't think anyone can argue with Capitol though!

  1. Capitol Peak - no question this one reigns at #1.  It's a long trip and the exposure and climbing is unrelenting.
  2. Pyramid Peak - Loose rock, dangerous climbing, cliffs, and very steep.
  3. Little Bear Peak - Has the most difficult section on a fourteener.  The good news is that it's short.
  4. South Maroon Peak - The loose rock and enormously complex and huge faces make this one tough, even from the standard route.  A more direct route is over the traverse or the Bell Cord Couloir.
  5. Mount Wilson - Another long trip.  The final ridge is thin, exposed, and can spook you.

If you like this site, especially the trip reports or images, you may want to use an application like "WebSnatcher" or "WebSnatcher IE" to easily save or archive them.  These applications are known as "Download Managers".  If you're not familiar with this concept, "WebSnatcher IE" is a very easy tool to use...it integrates into Internet Explorer 5.0.  Websntcher is a more powerful standalone app.
